Where the number comes from
A pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms. That is a definition from the 1959 agreement that also fixed the inch, so there is no measurement error in the factor. Going from kilograms to pounds means dividing by it, which is why the answer is 2.204623 and carries on.
In your head: double it, then add ten per cent. Seventy kilograms doubles to 140, plus 14 makes 154, and the exact answer is 154.32. At body weights that trick lands within a fifth of a pound.
One caution. This is the international avoirdupois pound, the one on every bathroom scale. Precious metals are still sold in troy pounds and troy ounces, which are different weights, so a gold figure converted here will be wrong.
