About these video tools

A copied trim moves the original packets without decoding them, so it is quick and loses nothing. Anything that changes the picture, such as compressing, resizing or making a GIF, has to decode and encode every frame, which takes far longer.

All of it runs through ffmpeg, built for the browser. The core is about 32 MB. Your browser downloads it once and keeps it, so the next visit starts straight away and works with no connection.

Working on your own device is why there is no length limit and no export count. It also has a cost. The tools do not use your graphics card, so a long 4K export is slower here than in a desktop app. They suit short clips, social posts and everyday compression.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The page reads the file from your disk, and your own hardware does the work. There is no upload to wait for. Once the engine has downloaded, the tools work with no connection.
Is there a file size limit?
None that we set. Memory is the real limit, and a phone runs out sooner than a laptop. Very large files work better in a desktop browser.
Will trimming reduce quality?
Not when the cut is copied, which is the default. The frames are moved, not drawn again. Re-encoding costs a little, and you choose how much.
Why is my cut slightly off?
A copied cut can only start on a full frame, and a video usually stores one every few seconds. Turn on re-encode for a cut on the exact frame.
Is the export watermarked?
No. Nothing is stamped on your video, at any length or count.
How long does compression take?
It depends on the clip's length and resolution, and on your device. A lower resolution or Fast effort makes it quicker.
