How it works
- 01
Add your PDF
Drop it in or pick it. It stays in this tab and is never uploaded.
- 02
Pick the size
Tap 100 kB, 200 kB, 500 kB or 1 MB, or type the limit the form gives.
- 03
Compress and download
The footer shows the new size. Download the file, then open it to check.
How a PDF gets to 200 kB
Upload portals for exams, jobs and visas often cap a PDF at 100 kB, 200 kB or 500 kB. A scanned certificate is often several MB, because a scanner saves every page as a large picture.
This tool draws each page again as a smaller picture and saves it as a JPG. It tries a sharp version first. If that is too big, it tries a smaller, softer one, halving the gap each time, and keeps the sharpest version that fits.
If your PDF is already under the size you pick, you get it back unchanged.
- Sizes
- 100 kB, 200 kB, 500 kB or 1 MB in one tap, or any number.
- How
- Pages re-drawn as JPG pictures at 150 down to 50 dpi.
- Text
- Not selectable after compressing. Small files are kept as they are.
- Uploads
- None. The PDF is compressed in this tab.
What you give up
A compressed page is a picture of the page. You can read it and print it, but you can no longer select or search its text. Links and form fields stop working too.
For a scan, nothing is lost, because a scan was only pictures to begin with. For a typed document, keep the original as well, and upload the small one only where a size limit forces it.
Some files cannot reach a tiny size. In our test, three scanned A4 pages came to 84 kB at 85 dpi. A long file can run out of room. Then the tool hands back the smallest version it could make, and says so.
